The share of small energy suppliers in the gas and electricity market has grown over time. A new report by Cornwall Insight shows the collective gas market share of small suppliers has grown from 17% to 56.2% over 15 years. Over the same period the share of meters provided by small suppliers in the electricity market has grown from 3.6% to 28.2%. Research also suggests that the combined market share of meters of the Big 6 has decreased.

More than 10 million smart meters are now connected to Britain's national smart meter network. The DCC revealed that over 5.5 million smart meters have been connected since the onset of the pandemic and the 10 millionth was installed by E.On Energy this morning.
