US: Transforming the power sector – cutting carbon while keeping the lights on

CleanTechnica recently published an article that highlights the decisive transition that the US power sector faces across the coming decade. 2019 capped a decade capitalised by the decline of coal, the rise of natural gas and the growth of renewables – but the coming years will see an acceleration to a carbon-free electric future. The article goes into further detail from the RMI’s report, ‘Cutting Carbon while keeping the lights on’, which explains that 50% of the US coal fleet could be retired by 2025 without a direct capacity replacement – intensifying the requirements in solar and wind energy.
