Summary

We are an innovative and market leading software & services company based in Chorley serving clients in the utility sector ranging from new entrants to large existing suppliers. We deliver sophisticated software solutions and managed services in a Private Cloud infrastructure, servicing both traditional and modern real-time, smart energy clients.

As a Technical Programme Manager, you will provide the necessary leadership, management, assurance and hands on delivery support to understand (as is), define (to be) and implement (Transform) the IT function to meet the needs of the Technical function and its customers, both now and moving forwards. You will be experienced at dealing with ambiguity, translating strategy into change and comfortable at operating with, and influencing, senior stakeholders.

They shall have a strong programme and project management background to enable them to interface effectively with the team providing guidance on the programme structure and delivery while leading the provision of detailed progress and recommendations to the programme board.

Direct, motivate, plan and monitor work in those projects you are responsible for, and take responsibility for the delivery of the projects success.

Knowledge of large scale technical programmes and the Utilities sector would be of benefit

Role Responsibilities

In your role you will be responsible for the successful delivery of technical programmes with a heavy focus on managing internal projects and IT service improvements.

Key Objectives:

  • Deliver internal IT projects and programmes as efficiently and effectively as possible, with a focus on the appropriate level of governance and a smooth handover to BAU
  • Create and maintain an overall programme view across all internal IT related change
  • Manage the demands across different project streams through prioritising requirements against industry, customer and internal expectations and deadlines and facilitating challenge and mediation as necessary
  • Managing the business expectations, relating to the projects timescales, budget, scope and quality
  • To proactively monitor the progress of the IT change portfolio, resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective action

The Technical Programme Manager is:

  • Responsible and accountable to the Director of IT for all project and programme delivery within their remi
  • Responsible for working in conjunction with other business areas to coordinate resource requirements between multiple projects that require additional suppor
  • Able to successfully manage communication and progress updates across all business stakeholder
  • Responsible for acting as an escalation point for delivery issue
  • Responsible for assigning and coordinating resources within the IT team
  • Identifying and managing project dependencies and critical paths, maintaining accurate project plans with real-time milestone, task and project health data across the IT change Portfolio
  • Able to identify key risks and issues and facilitate the development of mitigation plans
  • Responsible for running programme and steering group meetings as directed by the Director of IT
  • Responsible for inputting into wider Portfolio Management Boards and Steering Committees to communicate the progress of the IT Portfolio of change across the business
  • Able to act as liaison between UK Technical teams and Customer facing project stakeholders
  • Able to partake in service reviews and help identify and facilitate service improvements programmes where necessary
  • Able to manage IT project and service improvement related team meetings
  • Able to constantly seek to define and improve the processes and practices within the team and encourage others to do the same
  • To ensure consistent processes and documentation standards are identified and used across the team
  • Flexible in your approach to the role and task completion and when applicable ‘step in’ or ‘step up’ to other roles/positions that may need support

  • Knowledge with understanding what good design, development and testing looks like to enable robust discussions with technology resources and suppliers on the project.

The following areas of experience are mandatory:

  • 5+ years’ experience in commercial IT software projects & programmes at a minimum of a Programme / Senior Project Management role
  • IT software experience in a management or delivery capacity
  • Experience of the full IT software development lifecycle
  • Experience of defining, documenting and supporting end to end processes for standardisation
  • Experience of customer facing stakeholder management roles, interfacing to customer contacts at all levels from technical to C-level
  • Experience of owning and running programme budgets > £1m / 4,000 man days
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner
  • Managing Successful Programmes Foundation / Practitioner (not essential)
  • Previous experience in the Utilities Industry is highly desirable
