Role Responsibilities

Test Planning:

  • Liaise with the customer to understand system use, data and key scenarios
  • Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, developers and team leads to fully understand and challenge requirements and code changes
  • Analyse the risk associated with the change and write risk based test cases
  • Write test schedules for complex system changes as a mini project
  • Identify system dependencies across deliveries and consolidate testing as appropriate
  • Provide guidance to the wider team on testing techniques and approach
  • Test data planning and preparation
  • Deputise for the Test Lead as required for test estimation and planning workshops
  • Define the environment requirements including supporting application configuration

Test Execution:

  • Complete data setup
  • Carry out test execution independently
  • Raise clear, valid defects during test execution
  •  Own and manage defects through the lifecycle
  • Produce clear and concise test results with evidence
  • Work to quickly resolve test execution blockers
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the wider team on test issues encountered
  • Continually keep Scrum Master and other stakeholders updated on progress and raise blockers when they occur

Delivery:

  • Advise and support the customer on UAT approach and test techniques
  • Deliver agreed scope on or ahead of time and within budget targets
  • Carefully manage risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies
  • Follow up on commitments made and volunteer for additional responsibility

Team Development:

  • Share experience and technical knowledge widely
  • Gain commercial and business knowledge
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings
  • Chair team improvement meetings and positively influence the outcome
  • Pro-actively improves team processes by leading improvement initiatives
  • Train and mentor any team member
  • Provide leadership and management of major test exercises involving multiple testers
  • Support the Test Team lead in building up reusable test scripts and data to support continuous improvement and efficiency

About You

Testing professional with at least 5 – 6 years’ system testing experience, with at least 2 years related to energy supplier CRM and billing systems
Willing to undergo BS7858 screening

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Has a detailed understanding of SDLC
  • Has an understanding of agile practices and actively contributes feedback in sprint retrospectives acting as a voice for less experienced test analysts
  • Has actively contributed to user story refinement
  • Understands what makes a good user story and has provided feedback where improvements are needed
  • Understands the systems integration process and the risks involved
  • Performed SIT and UAT support on projects with time spent resolving the majority of issues and product queries
  • Able to design functional tests for complex and major system changes and use system knowledge to de-scope low risk tests based on time constraints.
  • Able to troubleshoot defects actively contributing towards solution for root cause fixes
  • Has been champion for their team advocating changes in process improvement
